Victoria Falls National Park, located in north-western Zimbabwe, safeguards the southern and eastern banks of the Zambezi River, encompassing the internationally renowned Victoria Falls. The park stretches along the Zambezi River, starting approximately 6 kilometers upstream from the falls and extending about 12 kilometers downstream.
One of the park’s most remarkable features is its rainforest, which thrives in the mist created by the falls. This unique ecosystem is home to a variety of plant species, including ferns, palms, liana vines, and several trees such as mahogany, which are not typically found in other areas of the region. Victoria Falls National Park is situated within the Zambezian and mopane woodlands ecoregion, contributing to its diverse flora and fauna.
Visitors to the park can enjoy the opportunity to observe a wide range of wildlife, including elephants, Cape buffalo, southern white rhinoceroses, hippopotamuses, giraffes, elands, and various antelope species during both game drives and walking safaris. Additionally, a bask of crocodiles can often be spotted in the river, and for those looking for a safer viewing experience, a nearby Crocodile Ranch provides a closer look at these formidable reptiles.
Accommodations are available in campsites within the Zambezi National Park, as well as in numerous resorts and hotels located in and around the town of Victoria Falls, which marks the park’s western boundary. Visitors are advised to take malaria precautions while enjoying the natural splendor and adventure that the park has to offer.
