Overview

Chikunto Safari Lodge is beautifully situated on a peninsula formed by the meandering Luangwa River in Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park. This traditional yet stylish property offers quick and easy access to the wildlife-rich and remote northern section of the park, making it an ideal base for an unforgettable safari experience.

Accommodation

Chikunto features five safari tents, including one family tent that sleeps four. Elevated on platforms by the riverbank, each tent is designed with sustainability and style in mind:

  • Design and Furnishings: The tents are crafted from green canvas and natural wood, providing a traditional safari camp feel with a touch of modernity. The minimalist furnishings are functional yet stylish, offering comfort without excess.
  • En-Suite Bathrooms: Each tent boasts an open-plan en-suite bathroom with a private shower, twin basins, and a flushing toilet, ensuring convenience and privacy for all guests.

Main Area

The main area of Chikunto Safari Lodge is set on a raised wooden deck overlooking the river. It includes:

  • Dining Area, Lounge, and Bar: Under a thatched roof, these communal spaces provide a cozy and inviting atmosphere for guests to relax, dine, and socialize.
  • Swimming Pool: A small pool with a counter-current system is available for guests who wish to incorporate some exercise into their stay, offering a refreshing way to cool off and stay active.

Chikunto Safari Lodge is committed to sustainability, incorporating eco-friendly practices in its construction and operations. The use of natural materials and elevated structures minimizes the environmental impact, blending seamlessly with the surrounding landscape.

Location

Chikunto’s strategic location on the western bank of the Luangwa River, about halfway between the main entrance to the park and the Nsefu sector, provides easy access to some of the park’s best wildlife viewing areas. The lodge’s proximity to the river ensures regular sightings of diverse wildlife from the comfort of your tent or the main deck.
