Thornicroft Lodge

Thornicroft Lodge

Thornicroft Lodge is nestled in the renowned South Luangwa National Park, just an hour’s flight from Lusaka. This park is celebrated for its abundant big cat sightings and is often referred to as the Valley of the Leopard. With over 400 species of birds, it has a rich history as a pioneer of walking safaris and conservation-based tourism in Africa, thanks to the legendary Norman Carr.

The Thornicroft team upholds Zambia’s outstanding reputation for guiding and offers guests an authentic safari experience for the adventure of a lifetime. The Riverview Chalets provide 10 simple but comfortable accommodations spread along the riverbank, offering stunning views of the Luangwa River and the national park. Each chalet is equipped with double or twin beds draped with mosquito nets, with space for a third bed if needed. The lodge can accommodate up to 30 people in the Riverview Chalets and up to 10 people in the tented chalets.

For a more affordable option, the Tented Camp provides a shared shower and toilet block with hot water and wash basins, making it ideal for accompanying guides or tour leaders of big groups. The facilities include a central dining area with a lounge and bar overlooking the abundant wildlife of the Luangwa River. They also offer a fully stocked bar, cafeteria, electricity, charging facilities, laundry service, free Wi-Fi in all chalets, air-conditioned rooms, and a Zambia-shaped leisure swimming pool.

Upon arrival at Mfuwe International Airport, all guests will be met and transported to Thornicroft Lodge (a 45-minute drive). For self-driven guests, clear road signage directs you to the lodge. Mfuwe International Airport is the closest airport, with scheduled flights typically allowing a 23kg per person maximum luggage allowance (packed in soft bags). The flight time from Lusaka is approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes.
