Mwamba Bush camp – Shenton Safaris

Mwamba Bush camp – Shenton Safaris

Mwamba is a special bush camp owned by Shenton Safaris and reflects Derek’s commitment to conservation. It was built on a former poachers’ site in 1995 to drive out poaching from the area. The camp embraces Derek’s belief in protecting wildlife through tourism. It has four cozy chalets by the Mwamba River, which dries up during the season. The camp’s design is relaxed and rustic, with hidden luxury touches, offering a homey feel in the bush. Mwamba is known for its unique safari experience and is home to the famous Last Waterhole Hide. The tranquil chalets are authentically recreated each year, with solar power providing lighting and cooling fans. The outdoor bathrooms offer a back-to-nature experience, and the camp provides a serene setting for relaxation and wildlife viewing.

The chalets are made of woven bamboo and reed, offering privacy and beautiful views of the river. They are designed to keep out insects and other elements, with no generator noise, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the sounds of the Zambian night. Each chalet has an outdoor shower and shares the simplicity and beauty of the camp’s design. Mwamba operates on 100% solar power, providing 24/7 lighting, mosquito nets on all beds, safe drinking water from an underground spring, and charging stations with international adaptors.

Guests can also experience the Numbu Star Bed, located in an open savannah plain, offering a unique opportunity to sleep under the African night sky. The camp provides exclusive access to the Last Waterhole Hide and other photographic hides for guests. Transfer options from Mfuwe International Airport to Kaingo are available for guests’ convenience, including flights operated by Proflight Zambia and road transfers with parking options near the airport or at the camp workshop.
