Mchenja Camp – Time + Tide

Mchenja is the local name for ebony, and the camp is nestled in a shady grove of ebony trees next to the Luangwa River in the heart of South Luangwa National Park. The camp offers five safari rooms, including a family room with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The rooms are elegantly designed with grass walls, comfortable cushions, and light curtains. Each room features a cozy bed, large windows, and an open-air bathroom with a bathtub overlooking the river. Guests can enjoy breakfast while listening to birdsong and hippos, and relax in the pool with a view of the Luangwa River between safari activities.

Visitors can experience tracking big cats in the bush and enjoy rewarding night drives, with the opportunity to see carmine bee-eaters during the right season. Mchenja offers a combination of wilderness and luxurious comfort for a memorable riverside retreat. The camp is open from May 20th to November 15th and provides accommodation in four safari rooms along with one family safari room. It also offers solar power and Wi-Fi connectivity in the safari rooms. Access to the camp is available via a 2.5-hour game drive transfer from Mfuwe Airport, and children of all ages are welcome at the camp.
