Chinzombo Safari Camp: Luxury in the Heart of South Luangwa

Overview: Chinzombo Safari Camp, set on 24 hectares of private Luangwa River frontage, represents the new generation of Zambian bush camps. Located just upstream from its sister camp, Kapani Lodge, in the South Luangwa National Park, Chinzombo is designed by award-winning architects Silvio Rech and Lesley Carstens. The camp brings unprecedented levels of comfort, style, and elegance to the Luangwa Valley.

Design and Architecture: Chinzombo combines modern architectural forms with organic geometry, regional materials, and indigenous Zambian building methods. The camp’s design emphasizes minimalism, environmental sensitivity, and luxury, creating an exclusive yet authentic bush experience.

Accommodation: The camp features six villas, including one designed for a family of five. The villas appear to float over the landscape, blending seamlessly with the surroundings. Features include:

  • Materials: Steel, natural materials, locally produced leather, reed work, and canvas.
  • Living Areas: Large, cooled bedrooms, spacious bathrooms with bathtubs offering views of the wildlife, WiFi, and private plunge pools on shady decks overlooking the Luangwa River.
  • Décor: Simple and minimal, using raw linen, timber, copper, and hand-made crockery.

  • Main Area: Connected by winding footpaths, the lounge, dining, bar, and fire pit area are shaded by msikzi trees.
  • Amenities: Exclusive and spacious, yet retaining a bush feel.

Activities: Chinzombo offers a variety of activities to explore the wilds of the Luangwa:

  • Guided Safaris: Led by legendary guides like Abraham and Shaddy, guests can enjoy personal and interactive experiences on foot, by vehicle, or by boat.
  • Wildlife: The camp offers access to a game-rich area with leopards, hippos, lions, elephants, hyenas, giraffes, and countless bird species.
  • Boat Safaris: Guests can start their day with a boat ride, witnessing elephants bathing, lions hunting, and hippos sunbathing.
  • Cultural Engagement: Involvement in regional school projects and the South Luangwa Guide’s Association.
